hey Ryan, yesterday i found The Clash Combat Rock on vinyl at a Salvation Army. i think if it had been London Calling i'd have peed my pants and started crying in the store, but instead i just got real excited and found Annie to show it off.
some people, man. i'm telling you.
some people are just pretty dang crazy.
Clive Owen's the top spot for the next Bond. i knew he'd get big. i mean, all they had to do was show everybody The Hire for proof that he could do this role. hooray for Ewan McGregor or Hugh Jackman not being James Bond, cos that would suck. not that i watch Bond movies or anything, cos man, they can be stupid and boring.
i have a new comp. it's name is Kingsley.
and music was never the same.
jonny, put a score on that piece.
i'm posting my review when i wake up.
Bright Eyes - Digital Ash in a Digital Urn - 7.8
:: Album Review ::
as far back as i can remember i have hated Bright Eyes. i mean, i tried, because, by critical standards Conor Oberst seems like an artist i should listen to. but i could never get seconds past his warbly vocals. then one day in denmark i got a package in the mail from Mr. Eric Himes. it was his valentine's day comp, which that year featured the Bright Eyes song "Waste of Paint". though still disturbed by the vocals, i gave the song a chance, and found what i had heard was to be found: wonderful lyrics that really paint great pictures. so i tried other songs, but still, could not get past those shaking melodies. a few months ago i read that Oberst was releasing two albums on the same day. one, an album in his normal acoustic folk style. the other, a digital album. so i assumed it would be a jump on the bandwagon, "hey, i wanna do something like that side project!", pop on drum machine, mega exposed but indie hype record. today i sampled some songs online and was quite surprised. his songwriting works very well in this digital atmosphere. and his vocals, for once, do not make me wanna smack him in the face for crying without knowing how to really sing. maybe it's a vocoder, or maybe it just works. and it's more than a trendy, put it in a movie soundtrack, throw away album. though i'm sure, in a month or so, this album will blow up like "postal worker" machine guns when they charge into work claiming they're "giving up". in other words, i'll have to pretend like i hate this album soon, but for now i recommend it.
